Free HTA & Health Economics Calculators
Three free calculators for the core arithmetic of health economic evaluation: the ICER and net benefit, QALYs, and discounting. Each one shows its formulas, a worked example and further reading, so you can check a number and see exactly where it comes from.
ICER Calculator
Incremental cost-effectiveness ratio, net monetary benefit, net health benefit and the cost-effectiveness plane quadrant for two options.
Open the calculatorQALY Calculator
QALYs for two scenarios from health-state utilities and durations, undiscounted and discounted, and the QALYs gained.
Open the calculatorDiscounting Calculator
Present value of a future cost or health effect, or of an equal annual stream, with published HTA discount rate presets.

Educational tools. The calculators use simple, transparent formulas to help you learn and run quick checks. They are not a substitute for a full economic model or for an HTA submission, which need the methods, time horizon and uncertainty analysis that the relevant HTA body requires. Calculations run in your browser and the numbers you enter are not stored.
How they fit together
From health states to a decision
The three tools follow the order of a cost-utility analysis. The QALY calculator turns time spent in health states into QALYs. The discounting calculator converts future costs and QALYs into present values. The ICER calculator compares the discounted costs and QALYs of two options and tests the result against a willingness-to-pay threshold.
For the background, read What Is a QALY? and ICER: The Incremental Cost-Effectiveness Ratio and Thresholds. The course covers the same ground in depth in Module 5 (health economics fundamentals and discounting), Module 6 (QALYs and utilities), Module 7 (the ICER, thresholds and net benefit) and Module 8 (economic modelling).
