15 Modules: From a First Map to the Practitioner's Workshop
The course follows a deliberate sequence, from orientation through evidence, biostatistics and economic modelling, to regulation, special topics and the practitioner's workshop.
Orientation
A first map of the field: how medicine, statistics and economics meet in an HTA decision. One lesson that shows you the whole territory before you start walking it.
What HTA Is and Why It Exists
The decision problem, opportunity cost, efficacy versus effectiveness, and framing the question with PICO. Where HTA sits in the system and why it exists at all.
The Evidence
Study designs, the evidence hierarchy, bias, confounding, randomisation and validity. How to judge what a trial can and cannot prove.
Biostatistics: Reading the Numbers
Variation, uncertainty, confidence intervals, p-values, hazard ratios, NNT and survival analysis. Not a statistics lecture, but a plain-language toolkit for reading the numbers a trial reports.
Evidence Synthesis
Systematic reviews, risk of bias, meta-analysis, forest plots, heterogeneity, network meta-analysis and GRADE. How to tell a rigorous evidence summary from a curated one.
Health Economics Fundamentals
